Systems. Stories. Small Wonders.
What's on my desk
Hi! I'm Debi.
I've never been very good at fitting into a single category. Over the years I've found myself building systems, managing projects, maintaining websites, organizing logistics, dyeing yarn, creating stories, fostering animals, supporting community efforts, and cheering on the creative work of people I love. This page is a gathering place for the many threads of my work and life as I continue trying to weave them into something practical and creative.I live in central Virginia, where much of my life revolves around balancing technical work with creative projects. Some days that means organizing operations and digital systems; other days it means caring for foster kittens, remodeling or repairing my house, working with yarn and fabric, supporting music and theater, or simply trying to keep up with everyday life. I’m drawn to thoughtful work, meaningful relationships, and the satisfaction of building things that function well.I'm actively accepting new clients and would love to hear from you!

Currently
Here are a few of the things filling my time at the moment.

Supporting operations for cycling and nonprofit projects

Fostering and house-sitting cats

Enjoying my daughter's music and theater

Trying to keep a home repaired and running
Areas of Work and Interest

Operations and Systems
I’ve always had a mind for systems: organizing information, improving workflows, solving practical problems, and finding ways to make complicated things feel manageable. I enjoy building automations and broad system connections, and I work most frequently in Airtable, Wix, Make, Google, and various APIs. Below are some of the organizations I have worked with.

Websites and Digital Projects
I like the balance of creativity and practicality that digital projects require: structure, aesthetics, organization, problem solving, and attention to the small details. Wix is my main platform, though I've also worked with Wordpress, Duda, and Carrd. Below are some examples of websites I have designed or help manage.

Transcription and Bookkeeping
Language and detail-oriented work have long been part of my professional life. Over the years I’ve freelanced in legal, law enforcement, and music transcription, and I've managed corporate bookkeeping since my mid teens. I type at 90+ words per minute and am comfortable working with detailed audio and complex terminology. My background as a paralegal also strengthened my ability to manage sensitive information, maintain accuracy under deadline, and communicate clearly in professional settings.

Music
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My childhood piano teacher said I absorbed it into my pores! I grew up surrounded by four-part harmony singing in the Mennonite tradition and have played many instruments, including piano, guitar, accordion, and cello. I played keyboard in a rock band and in multiple church worship teams. My daughter is also musically talented, and I enjoy supporting and encouraging her a musician and songwriter.

Animals
Caring for animals has been a meaningful part of my life. Over the years I’ve fostered kittens, bottle babies, blind dogs, injured cats, and other animals, learning along the way that care is often made up mostly of consistency, adaptability, and showing up day after day. Our home has been a temporary landing place for many small lives in transition, and I’m grateful for the chance to be part of those stories.

Words and Stories
Stories and words have always been a huge part of my life, changing the way I see the world and giving me new worlds to see at the same time. I've done some writing and proofreading over the years, and there are several books in my head I'd love to put on paper someday, but in the meantime, here are a few of my top favorite books of all time.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Greensleeves by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
The Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher
The Gilead series by Marilynne Robinson
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

Fiber Arts and Color
Working with fiber and color has long been one of my favorite forms of creativity. Over the years I’ve spent countless hours knitting, quilting, hand-dyeing yarn, and designing patterns, drawn especially to the interplay of texture, and color. While my fiber work is less active these days, it remains an important creative thread in my life.
